BOARD OF TRUSTEES
SPECIAL MEETING
October 7, 1988
I . A special meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees was
calied to or�er at 11 a.m. by Chairman George Gorham in the Library
Director's office at the Main Library.
Present: Trustees Gorham, McEwan, Saenz and Way. Also present,
Karen A. Leo, Library Director , and Sheila Gannon, Administrative
Secretary.
Absent: Trustee Courtney
A discussion of the Trustee Tooi Kit for Library Leadership -
Chapter 6 took piace. Director Leo said she will assemble the
existing written library policies regarding intellectual freedom and
selection of materials for the Trustees' binders.
During the discussion of the section, "Gifts and Special Selections, "
Director Leo stated that there are no specific policies at this time.
However , she said that there are general policies listed on the gift
form. Trustee Saenz asked what policies were stated in regard to the
materials given by the Orange Comnunity Historical Society to the
Library. Director Leo explained that a contract was drawn up with
the Qrange Community Historical Society for permanent loan of their
historical materials.
Chairman Gorham made a recommendation that Director Leo develop
written policies on all relevant areas as referred to in the Trustee
Too! Kit for Library Leadership. Director Leo agreed to this
recommendation. The list �of recommended policies will be kept in the
Trustee binders and as policies are written and reviewed by the
�ibrary Board, they will be noted on the list. Director Leo
mentioned that development of these policies may take a year or more.
After the Board has studied all the policies mentioned in the Trustee
Tooi Kit for Library Leadership, a determination as to how often the
policies should be reviewed will be assessed.
Meeting adjourned at 12: 15 p.m.
