The regular meeting of the Qrange Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order at 4:35 p.m. by Chairwoman Way in the Corrxnunity Room of the N1ain Library. Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham and Way. Also present, Karen A. Leo, Library Director , and Sheila Gannon, Administrative Secretary. Absent: Trustees McEwan and Saenz. II . Trustee Gorham moved that the minutes of the February 22 meeting be approved as presented. Seconded by Trustee Courtney. Motion carried . ► II . The Library Director 's monthly report for February was not available. Director Leo said reports for both February and March will be presented at the next meeting. IV. Old Business: A. Trustees Gorham and Courtney attended the Automation Task Force meeting held by RMG Consultants, Inc. Trustee Gorham commented on Representative Larry Woods' presentation. He was very impressed with Mr . Woods' background which is library automation oriented. Trustee Courtney said Mr . Uloods appeared organized and knowledgable. Director Leo stated that she is extremely pleased with RMG Consultants, Inc. at the present time. B. t . Director Leo reported that neither of the mid-year requests was approved. The first request, the Main Library parking lot improvement, was included '+n the CIP for FY SSJ89. She said pians are to close the Main Library in August to carpet, rewire and create a new floor arrangement. The parking lot praject will occur while the Library is closed. Motion carried. Cae Tru�tee Gorham reparted that the CAI�TAC Utorkshop, "Trustees & the Pl�nning Prvicess, " w�s composed, far �kh� most part, af d �scuss6ans on finances. He �aid speeche� wer� m�de by people in resp�nsibie pc��itians and n��ed fihat Gary S�tr�ng, the Sfiate Librarian, g�ve a strong presentation. Trustee Corham ��tated that th�re were two other GD�fe� with similar buil� ing situations to ours, Qne city i� bufldinc� with fund� which were given by business corporation� in th� area plus svme private c i t i z�ns, Th�y are �,i�i r�g no Sfiate or I�c�I fund i ng. Dir�ctor Leo state� that she �nd �argaret Donneilan wili b� attending the P�blic Library As���i�tion Gonf��ence in Pittsbur�h. She is also att�nding a preconfere�ce Qn the Public Libr�ry D�velopm�nt P�ogram. Marga�et will be attending a prec�nf�rence vn "Coll�cfiion Develvpment" and a pastconfer�nce on °'Video S�iectian. " Director Leo wiil be gone fro� April �Q through Apri6 30. �. The Library has �lanned three m�jvr activities in cnnjunction with the City of arang� ��nt�nnial ceiebrafiian. Fir�t, the Library and �USD co-sp�nsored a pos�er cont��t fior childr�n. Direct�r Le� reported th�t the Library ha� r�c�ived many posters from th� children in privat� s�hoois 6n response �o th� c�n����. Sh� stated fiha� the s��and activity is a trivia cant�st. The answ�rs are in books in the Library and �11 q�e��i�ns a�� �n Or�nge hi�t��y. The third a�tivity will be a �rogram at th� Main Library on Thur�day, August 21 , 7:30 p.m. �r . Louis �eichmann will speak and sh�w slade� �n �he subject "�el�o�e to Oran�e County. '" C. �i���t�r L�a repor�ed tha� fih� piano concert with La�zfo L��, sponsored by th� Fri�nd� on March 25, was a great s�ccess. Not only wer� pe�pi� �tanding in th� Cvr�nunity Raom, �ut some �ad to be turned a�ay. The concert ��s vi�e�taped thraugh th� joint �ff�rts �f G�blevi�i�n of �range an� the �taff �f t�� Audiovisual S�cti�n of the Library. Nora Jacab was able to obt�in �h� loan of � conc�r� grand pia�o for �o �harg� in �xch�nge f�r � c�py �f the video tap�. ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES March 21 , 1988 Page four Director Leo announced that the Friends are having a Ceantennial fundraiser of a Readathon which will be held on Saturday, April 6, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the front porch of the Edwards House. The fee is �t per minute, with a minimum of five minutes. It was moved by Trustee Gorham that the meeting adjourn. Seconded by Trustee Courtney. Motion carried.
