MINUTES OF A REGULAR N?EETING
December 15, 1986
The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees was
called to order at 5:10 p.m. at the home of Trustee McEwan.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, McEwan, Saenz and Way. Also present,
Director �,aren A. Leo and Sheila Gannon, Secretary to the
Library Director.
The nlinutes of the previous nieetiizg were approved as received.
�:eports Presented and L`iscussed:
The Library Director's monthly report was reviewed and discussed. Karen
rioted that the Reference statistics continue to rise. She also drew atten-
tion to the growth in El Modena's circulation which is up almost 10,000
over what it was last year to date. Taft's circulation shows a decline;
however, that is assumed to be because there are fewer children in the
neighborhood now.
karen Leo reported on the many personnel changes and commented that one of
the page positions recently filled had been vacant since last sumrier.
There were a total of three new hires, three transfers, one resignation,
one temporary hire on a contract basis and one menical leave of absence.
Karen stated that a survey is oeing made of other cities to determine if
the vacated Audiovisual Aide position is correctly titled and salaried in
comparison with other cities. She also noted that the recruitment to fill
NTarcia Dale's vacated position at Taft Branch ends on December 24.
riaren said a letter has been received from William Griffith, Director of
Anaheim Public Library, in response to our declining to join their consor-
tium. There will be a meeting tomorrow with Janet iiummel, Manager of CMSI,
the City's Data Processing consultants, and Teri Cable, Program Manager, in
regarct to instituting an independent automated library system. At the
present time, we will issue an RFP for a consultant.
llirector Leo stated that the Library will soon sign a contract �aith OCLC
for retrospective conversion. We have six months to convert all of our
3 x .� shelf list cards to machine readable data using the OCLC database.
w'e will have one microcomputer at each branch so that the job can be done
more rapidly. Everyone on the staff will work on the project. Trustee
NicEwan offered to help as a volunteer.
