Present: Truste.es Courtney, Diaz, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis Absent: None The minutes of the previous meeting, May 19, 1980, were approved as read. Reports Presented and Discussed: Monthly report from the Finance Director dated 5/31/80 Monthly report of library service dated May 1980 Agenda Items: NIELSEN SB 958 Senate Bill 958, a bill to fund public libraries in the state of California, was referred to a Sub-committee on Education to resolve several policy issues which were raised. The bill calls for the State to pay 20% o�'a library budget and the local library pays 80%. NEW LIBRARY BOARD MEMBER The Oran e City News, June 4, 1980, announced the vacancy on the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees. As of this date the Mayor has not appointed a Trustee to replace Judith Lehman. SUMMER READING GAMES Joan Blumenstein, Head of Children' s Services, received a Proclamation from the City Council kicking off the summer reading games in Southern California. The art work being used by many Southern California libraries was created by Rosemarie Williams, Taft Branch Library. BOOK SECURITY SYSTEM The Book Security System has become an accepted way of life for most library patrons. It should reduce book theft by 80�/. EBELL CLUB Mr. Erlich gave a talk on local history and ephemera to the Santa Ana Ebell Club June 4. CONFERENCE JUNE 27 - JULY 4 Mr. Erlich wi11 attend the American Library Association Annual Conference. XEROX COPIER � As a courtesy, a11 Library Board members may have copies made on the Xer�x copier at no charge, A1�. staff inembers wi11 be notified by memo. PERSONNEL � At present there are six library positions vacant as a result of the freeze. On June 17 City Council wi11 decide whe�ther to lift or continue the freeze, Nancy Long; Library Assistant, celebrated her 20th anniversary with the Orange Public Library. SENIOR CITIZENS Senior citizens are meeting in the E1 Modena Branch Library Community Room on a �' temporary basis unti.l such time as their own facility is ready for occupancy. JUDY LE HMA.N Chairman Court�:e� presented. Trustee Lehman a plaque from City Council in recognition of her years of service as a Library Board member. It was moved by Trustee Courtney, seconded by Trustee Tavis, that Judy Lehman be commended for her years of service. Motion was unanimously approved.
