The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees was called to order
at 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Library Director.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Diaz, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis
Absent: None
The minutes of the previous meeting, April 21, 1980, were approved as read.
Reports Presented and Discussed:
Monthly report from the Finance Director dated April 30, 1980
Monthly report of library service dated April 1980
Agenda Items:
BOOK SECURITY SYSTEM
Mr. Erlich informed the Library Board that we have received several complaints
at the Main and Taft Branch Libraries concerning the Book Security System.
SB 958(NIELSEN)
This is a bill to fund public libraries in the state of California. Mr. Erlich
reported on the status of this bill.
TAFT BRANCH LIBRARY
The Taft Branch Library has been experiencing a certain number of discipline problems.
The Police Department has been notified about this situation.
NEWSPAPER ARTICLE
An article in the Santa Ana Register for April 30, 1980 is extremely complimentary
to Barbara Poff, Reference Department, Orange Public Library, for providing
information to Jo Graham, the author of this article.
LIBRARY BOARD TRUSTEES OF ORANGE COUNTY
Mr. Erlich read a letter from the President of the Placentia Library Board concerning
future meetings of this organization. No action was taken by our Library Board.
AUTOMATED CIRCULATION CONTROL SYSTEM
The Lil��ary Board discussed the pros and cons of our propased Automated Circulation
Control System. The study prepared by Hazel Wang, Taft Branch Librarian, on this
subject was also discussed.
The meeting adjourned at 6:45 p.m.
Next regular meeting Monday, June 16, 1980, 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Library
Director.
