The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees was called to
order at 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Library Director.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis
Absent: Trustee Diaz
The minutes of the previous meeting, March 17, 1980, were approved as read.
Reports Presented and Discussed:
Monthly re,�ort from the Finance Director dated March 31, 1980
Monthly report of library service dated March 1980
Agenda Items:
F INE FREE DAY
Mr. Erlich reported that Fine-Free Day, Saturday, April 19, was a moderate success.
FRIENDS MEETING
The Friends annual meeting held Sunday, April 20, was a huge success. Trustee
Gorham reported on this program in detail.
BOOK SECURITY SYSTEM
The Book Security System is now operational at the Main, Taft and El Modena libraries.
There have been several complaints regarding the system.
HIRING FREEZE
Mr. Erlich announced the resignation of Audio-Visual Specialist Bill Shaw. We
now have four vacancies subject to the hiring freeze.
MEETING WITH NEW CITY COUNCIL
Mr. Erlich will meet with the new City Council June 9 to discuss the library budget.
SANTA ANA COLLEGE COURSE
Mr. Erlich reported that sometime in September the library, in cooperation with
Santa Ana College, will present a course for college credit on the subject of
"Death and Dying in America.11
The meeting adjourned at 5:20 p.m.
Next regular meeting Monday, May 19, 1980, 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Library
Director.
