The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library was called to order at 4:30 p.m.
in the Community Room of the Orange Public Library.
Present: Trustees Courtney, Diaz, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis
Absent: None
The minutes of the previous meeting, February 25, 1980, were approved as read.
Reports presented and discussed:
Monthly report from the Finance Director dated February 29, 1980
Monthly report of library service dated February 1980
Agenda Items:
FINE FREE DAY
The Santiago Library System may hold a Fine-Free Day Saturday, April 19, 1980,
during National Library Week.
SANTIAGO LIBRARY SYSTEM LAY ADVISORY BOARD
Trustee Gorham attended this meeting held March 4, 1980 at the Orange Public Library.
Two grants were discussed, and comments concerning these grants were forwarded to
the Executive Director of the Santiago Library System.
Mr. Erlich read a paragraph from the California Library Association Newsletter
for March 1980 which summarizes problems which Advisory Boards are experiencing.
FRIENDS OF THE ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Friends' annual meeting will be held Sunday, April 20, 3:00 p.m. in the Community
Room, Main Library. The guest speaker will be T. Ernesto Bethancourt, an author of
children' s and young adult books, and folk singer.
The Friends annual book sale will be held Saturday, October 25.
EL CAMINO PARK DEDICATION
Library Board members were invited to attend the dedication of the El Camino Park
March 25, 1980, 2:00 p.m. .

The first newsletter put out by th.e E1 Modena staff was discussed by the Library
Board. A11 agreed it was extremely well done.
TRUSTEE S OF ORANGE COUNTY MEET ING
Mr Erlich reminded the Board members that a meeting of a11 Library Trustees would
be held at the Newhope Branch, Santa Ana, March 21, 7:30 p.m. . A discussion
followecl concerning the role of this group, and its.aeco�a�.plishm�.ntse It was
moved by Trustee Lehman, seconded by Trustee Tavis, and unanimously approved,
that the Trustees of the Orange Public Library no longer participate in this
organization, and that a letter be drafted by Trustee Courtney and sent to
the Chairman of the Santa Ana Library Board.
The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p.m.
Next regular meeting will be Monday, Apri1 21, 1980, 4:30 p.m. in the office
of the Library Director.
