The regular meeting of the Orange Public Library Board of Trustees was called to
order at 4:30 p.m. in the Co�nunity Room of the Orange Public Library.
Present: Trustees Diaz, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis. Also present Hazel Wang.
Absent: Trustee Courtney
The minutes of the previous meeting, January 21, 1980, were approved as read.
Reports presented and discussed:
Monthly report from the Finance Director dated January 31, 1980
Monthly report of library service dated January 1980
Agenda Items:
AUTOMATED CIRCULATION CONTROI.
Mr. Erlich reported that he had written a letter, with City Manager approval, to
William Griffith, Anaheim City Librarian, expressing interest in joining the Anaheim
consortium consisting of the libraries of Anaheim, Placentia, Yorba Linda, and Buena
Park. However, the letter stated that a final decision would be forthcoming sometime
in July 1980.
BOOK SECURITY SYSTEM
The 3-M Tattle-Tape System was awarded the bid for the installation of a book
security system at our three library facilities.
CLARION February 7, 1980
Much of this publication is devoted to an explanation of SB 958 (Nielsen) . This
bill has cleared the Senate.
LIBRARY BUILDINGS
Al1 three library buildings suffered some damage as a result of the recent storms.
All damage has been reported.
NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK April 13 - 19
The Santiago Library System is considering a fine-free week.

Mr. E rlich distributed a report summarizing this conference, which was held in
Sacramento and.<,_�,�tended by Trustees Diaz and Gorham.

The following grants are being pursued by the Santiago Library System:
A. A Heritage Grant
B. �ooks for Asians Grant
C. Community Analysis
D. A Strategies for Change Grant
E. An Audio-Visual Grant
CALIFORNIA. LIBRARY SERVICE ACT STATEWIDE DATA BASE
A re�o�t prepared by Joan �rye, State Consultant, concerning �the long range
reco�nmendations for the creation of a statewide data base was discussed.
SANT IA.GO I.,IBRARY SYSTEM LAY ADVISORY BOARD
Trustee Gorham invited the Library Board to attend a meeting of the Lay Advisory
Board of the Santiago Library System to be held at the Orange Public Library
March 4, 1980, 7:30 p.m. .
FRIENDS OF THE ORA.IVGE PLTBI,IC LIBRARY
The Friends Board wi.11 meet Wednesday, February 27, 7:30 p.m. in the office of
the Library Director to discuss the Friends newsletter, and the annual Friends
meeting to be held Sunday, Apri1 20, 1980, 3:00 p.m. in the Library Community Room.
The meeting adjourned at 5:50 p,m.
Next regular meeting wi11 be Mar�.h 17, 4:30 p.m. in the office of the Library
Director.
