Present: Trustees Courtney, Gorham, Lehman and Tavis. Also present Hazel Wang. Absent: Trustee Diaz The minutes of the previous meeting, December 17, 1979, were approved as read. Reports Presented and Discussed: Monthly report from the Finance Director dated December 31, 1979 Monthly report of library service dated December 1979 Agenda items: AUTOMATED CIRCULATION CONTROL Trustees Courtney and Gorham reported on the meeting they attended at the Anaheim Public Library January 16 on the SCI Circulation Control System. The City Manager also attended this meeting. Hazel Wang will complete her report on this system in the near future. K2 CABLE TV Mr. Erlich discussed the possibility of installing Cable TV in tandem with the K2 library information booth at the City Shopping Center. CANNON DEDICATION Mr. Erlich read Mayor Hoyt' s invitation to the Library Board inviting them to attend a cannon dedication February 1, 1980, 10:30 a.m. , in front of the Civic Center. REFERENCE DEPARTMENT Mr. Erlich reported that the Reference Departments at all three libraries have been busier than ever during the first two weeks of January. BOOK SECURITY SYSTEM Mr. Erlich reported that the Book Security System is out to bid. Additional furniture to accommodate the Book Security System has been ordered. ORANGE PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES January 21, 1980 Page two CLARION The CLARION, January 11, 1980, a publication of the California Library Association, stated that SB 958 had cleared the Senate Finance Committee. This is a bill to fund public libraries with State funds. If the voters should approve Jarvis II in June, then SB 958 would be scrapped. PERSONNEL Nancy Leonard, Children' s Department Main Library, will resign after sixteen years. SANT IAGO LIBRARY SYSTEM The Santiago Library System is considering the possibility of installing OCLC (a bibliographic retrieval computer system based in Ohio) in all member libraries.
