RES-9230 Supporting Commercial Aviation Reuse of El ToroRESOLUTION NO. 9230
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF ORANGE SUPPORTING
COMMERCIAL AVIATION REUSE OF EL
TORO
WHEREAS, EI Toro is a resource of county-wide impact and significance,
and the future needs of Orange County must beconside:red in the ultimate disposition of
this
facility. As one of the most populated counties in th(: nation, Orange County must
provide for its future transportation needs to ensure that the necessary infrastructure,
including airports, are in place so that people and services move through and within the county
in an efficient and environmentally sensitive
manner.Given Orange County's projected growth and recent air traffic
demand projections by Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), it is
appropriate that Orange County provide for its own air traffic needs. Orange County cannot
continue to force our residents and businesses to drive to outlying airports creating more
traffic congestion and air pollution in north and central Orange County
cities.Orange County's future economic well being would be greatly enhanced by
the addition of an international airport facility within the County. Conversion of EI
Toro would generate new jobs and would increase business revenues in Orange
County. The development of a commercial airport at EI Toro will include all
possible mitigation measures to minimize any negativelmpacts to surrounding
communities resulting from commercial airport
operations.NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City
of Orange expresses its support for commercial airport reuse ofEI
Toro.ADOPTED this 22nd day of February
