249 S. Batavia St.
Orange CA 92867
Oral presentation is based on the written staff report; please refer to your copy. Chairman Yarger
opened the public hearing for the following drscussion;
Carolyn Turnbaugh, 1410 E. Orane Grove Ave. — I'm here representing Mr. & Mrs. Arno Baehner
residents of 249 S. Batavia St. It's really become a traffic hazard since the French Inn has become a
parry house. The City had required the French Inn provide parking down at the corner of
LaVeta/Batavia when they have large parties because we were having so much traffic congestion .
and the party-goers want to park in front of the driveways, and you can't get in or out without
creating a traffic hazard. The French Inn has a shuttle bus that takes people back and forth to their
extra parking location which is about 'h mile away. The shuttle bus has no place to park, the
French Inn needs a loading zone, the bus double-parks on busy Batavia St., traffic backs-up behind
it, then people try to go around it on this 2-lane street.
. Chairman Yarger c/osed the public hearing and returned the item to the Commission for further
discussion and a motion:

. Request for the installation of an "Atl-Way" STOP control device at the infiersection of Kathleen Ln.
• and Lomita Ave.
Officer L. Bartel, OPD Bike Patrol
CITY OF ORANGE
Oral presentation is based on the written staff repor; please refer to your copy. Chairman Yarger
opened the public hearing for the following discussion:
lon Dumitru, 860-A N. Kathleen St. — (Opposed to request.) I live on the north side of Lomita
where the proposed red curb is. There is a great need for on-street parking in this area and losing
this parking would really impact us. A "1-Way" STOP on Lomita is a much better idea. We would
even like you to install speed humps to help reduce speeds.
. Eric Varas; 860-A N. Kathleen St. — (Opposed to request.) I also am in favor of a "1-Way" STOP
sign on Lomita for east/west traffic. I am opposed to losing any on-street parking in our
neighborhood because there is such a great need for parking. I think we need a warning sign of an
"INTERSECTION AHEAD" sign because there are some visibility problems.
Chairman Yarger closed the public hearing and returned the item to the Commission for further
discussion and a motion:
Chairman Yarer — If we installed the STOP sign without the red curb on Kathleen and desired to
install it later on can we initiate it ourselves or would it have to be requested by on the area
residents?
Dave Allenbach, Transportation Analyst— !t can be done either way.
ACTIONo Deny the request for the installation of an "AII-Way" STOP control device at the
, intersection of Kathleen St. and Lomita Avee Approve installation of a "One-Way"
STOP on Lornita Ave.without installing red curb markings on Kathleen St.
