RESOLUTION NO. 10055
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO SERGEANT DAVID S. ALTON OF THE
ORANGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR TWENTY-THREE
YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE
WHEREAS, Dave Alton began with the Orange Police Department on October 25,
1982, and during his career worked in the Traffic Bureau as a motor officer, accident investigator
and reconstructionist; the Detective Division as a Major Fraud investigator; and the Patrol
Division as Master Police Officer, Station Commander at the Block of Orange; and Sergeant
from May 20,2001 to the present.
WHEREAS, He was President and Health Council representative for the Orange Police
Association, Team Sergeant for both the Crisis Negotiation and Crime Scene Investigation
Teams.
WHEREAS, Dave volunteered in the trammg and development of reserve police
officers, and in '84 received a service award from Fullerton College and the North Orange
County Police Reserve Academy for donating in excess of 1000 hours.
WHEREAS, In 1992 Deputy District Attorney Kenneth Chinn, Major Fraud Unit,
commended Dave on an outstanding investigation regarding a major case involving the staging
of automobile accidents. Among other important cases, in '99, his apprehension of a driver for
an improper U-turn led to the arrest of a FBI-wanted drug runner involving several southwestern
states.
WHEREAS, Dave has been known as "Coach Dave" in softball and baseball; he enjoys
bowling; and he represented the OPD in numerous Police and Fire Olympic games as well as
World Police and Fire Games. He received five bronze medals, two silver medals, and one gold
medal in bowling along with one bronze, two silver and two gold medals in coed softball.
WHEREAS, Dave has been described as a man gifted with a gregarious personality,
good sense of humor, and a calm demeanor that has often reduced the tensions in dealing with
the public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Orange, hereby extends sincere gratitude to Sergeant David S. Alton for twenty-three years of
service to the citizens of the City of Orange and offer best wishes for a long, happy, and healthy
retirement.
