A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO JOHN THOMPSON OF THE WATER DIVISION
AND COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE THAN
THIRTY-ONE YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED
SERVICE.WHEREAS, John Thompson began his career with the City of Orange on
April 19, 1978, working for the Water Division as a Drafter in the Engineering Section, and
was promoted to Water Plant Operator in February 1980 and Water Plant Operator II in
July 1987, and to his current position of Water Maintenance Leadworker in November 2005;
and WHEREAS, John has always maintained a relaxed and positive "can
do"attitude, even in the face of the most perplexing production problems. He remains
vigilant and detail oriented in carrying out any and all tasks. He rose to every production
challenge of his own accord, wielding a positive and determined mindset, balanced with years
of experience, to meet every ordeal, head on. His decisions and planning remain clear
and concise and based on common sense solutions with realistic outcomes. His continual
easy going nature and positive work ethic combined with an optimistic yet down-
to-earth outlook,has earned him the continual respect and admiration of fellow
co-
workers and associates alike.WHEREAS, John has made enormous strides in the refining
and fine tuning of water production system operations, while meeting and
overcoming the many arising production challenges facing the Division. He remains
an instrumental "key orchestrator"for his vision and forethought in the continuing balancing
act of maximizing water production while increasing energy efficiencies. He distinguished
himself with his tireless efforts to improve effectiveness of water system pumping
strategies. Through the thoughtful application of his decades of "hands on" system operation
experience combined with a scholarly knowledge of Southern California Edison rate structures, he
was able to equate,adjust and fine tune the bewildering array of Edison power rate
schedules to match the complex pumping operations resulting in significant power cost
savings to the City.WHEREAS, John is to be complemented for his
foresight and vision when contributing to helping build a water system that is dependable and
cost efficient for the citizens of Orange. His steadfast determination and commitment to
his work has continued to set high standards of operation and dependability in water
system operations resulting in increasing system efficiency and continual high quality water service
to
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council, on behalf of the
employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby expresses to John Thompson
appreciation for over 31 years of loyal and dedicated service and wish John and his wife
Christine a happy and fulfilling retirement.
