She will be attending kindergarten. I sincerely urge you to carefully consider increasing the allowed number of students at O CCA, for reasons stated below: Charter schools like O C CA are not abundant in California. I moved here from Utah, where the state public schools offer dual language immersion (where the child achieves true fluency in 2 languages, the program begins in K indergarten); a variety of charter schools with different curriculum and varying focus; schools that greatly support STEM learning, as well as private schools. There are so many kinds of schools to choose from, especially abundant are charter schools, they are free, and provide a top notch education for children because of the way they are structured. California does not have many charter schools, or even public schools that offer dual immersion in every county, statewide, as Utah does. The school selection here in California, particularly Orange, is public or private, mostly. This leaves little choice for parents who want to provide more for their child, yet cannot afford private education. This is why increasing the number of students OCCA has is critical; there simply aren't enough schools of its kind locally and the type of education they provide young minds is something that parents are seeking out for their children, but not finding here in Southern Califirnia. This is the only school of its kind here in the area, please give as many children as you can the opportunity to have a classical education - where the gift of education and learning isn't WHAT to think, but rather, HO W to think. This is the crux of classical education. Think of what this type of learning can do for young minds, and the power it carries. I realize that this school is in a residential neighborhood, but honestly, what schools aren't? My public elementary school, my private elementary and middle school, and my public high school were all in residential neighborhoods. We drove slowly, we were careful to not exceed a certain noise level, events were scheduled during the day and early evening, and we followed the parking restrictions. Precautions and safeguards are taken to protect the feel of the neighborhood, and that is to be expected when a school is in a residential neighborhood. I want to be a good neighbor. I will support whatever solutions are presented to accommodate more children at OCCA while still maintaining the integrity of the neighborhood; I understand the concerns of parking and traffic and am happy to comply with what is a satisfying solution for these neighbors. Thank you for your time, Desiree Awad
