A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO CORPORAL ED POLLIARD OF THE ORANGE
POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR 25 YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Ed Poniard began his employment with the City of Orange as a Land
Surveyor in the Public Works Department in 1980. Ed had a co-worker who was a
reserve police officer. His stories of the excitement of police work sparked Ed's interest in
law enforcement;
and,WHEREAS, in February of 1982, Ed sponsored himself through the
Fullerton College Reserve Academy (Class 20), and graduated first in his class. He began his career
in law enforcement as a reserve officer with the City of Orange on August 23, 1982.
He became the secretary of the reserve officers' association and routinely worked 80-
100 hours per
month; and,WHEREAS, in the summer of 1983, Ed decided he wanted to become
a full-time police officer and sponsored himself through the Golden WESt
College Police Academy Class 75). After graduation, Ed worked as a police officer for the
University of California Irvine Police Department then the University of California Los
Angeles
Police Department;and,WHEREAS, Ed decided the City of Orange was where he belonged,
and on August 12, 1985 he was hired as a full-
time police officer; and,WHEREAS, Ed spent his career working in the patrol
and traffic divisions. His assignments have included patrol officer, field training officer,
motor officer, motor training officer
and motor corporal; and,WHEREAS, on March 20 1993, Ed responded to an
emergency call regarding a child drowning in a backyard pool. Ed arrived and performed
CPR until the paramedics arrived. Due to Ed's life-saving efforts, he received the Award
of Valor from the American Legion. As a result of that incident, a bond developed between Ed
and the family. Not only did Ed become the godfather of the young boy, but on June 24, 1998,
Ed married that
boy's mother, Lenora; and,WHEREAS, Ed has been a key member of
the department's Major Accident Investigation Team, and has been instrumental in overseeing
and training traffic officers in the use of the SOKIA surveying laser equipment used
in investigating major collisions; and,WHEREAS, Ed has been described by
supervisors and citizens as friendly,compassionate, easy-going, dedicated and a hard worker. During
Ed's career he has received more than
WHEREAS, on July 4, 2010, Ed Polliard retires from the Orange Police
Department after 25 years of service.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council, on behalf of the
employees and citizens of the City of Orange, hereby expresses our appreciation to Corporal
Ed Polliard for his 25 years of dedicated service to the Orange Police Department and the
City of Orange community, and wish him much happiness and success in his future.
