A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO DARRELYNN SMITH AND COMMENDING
HER FOR THIRTY -THREE YEARS OF LOYAL
AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Darrelynn Smith came to the City of Orange in 1975 through the
Comprehensive Employment and Training Act (CETA) program as a Typist Clerk I working
for various departments; and
WHEREAS, After six months she was hired by the City as a Typist Clerk, and then
promoted to Typist Clerk II with the Business License Inspectors in the Planning and
Development Department; and
WHEREAS, She continued her career as Intermediate Clerk, Business Services
Clerk, Senior Finance Clerk in Accounts Payable, and eventually returning full circle to her
roots in the Business License Division in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Darrelynn has proven to be an encyclopedia of knowledge for business
licensing, answering thousands of questions from business owners, never tiring of helping
people get started in their new business ventures. "Welcome to Orange!" was her common
greeting to those at her counter; and
WHEREAS, Having worked for the City for so many years, Darrelynn could write a
book about all the stories she has learned of, and
WHEREAS, Darrelynn has announced her plan to retire as of July 5, 2011. Her
wealth of business license knowledge can never be replaced, no matter how many volumes of
books and procedures she leaves behind.
WHEREAS, During retirement she will be able to pursue the activities she loves:
namely; reading, shopping, going on cruises, playing with her grandchildren, getting married,
and other activities. She will wonder how she ever found time to work a full time job; and
WHEREAS, The Finance Department will miss her frequent flower bouquets, her
pleasant sense of humor, and her contagious laughter. She will certainly be missed by the
entire Finance Department, especially her colleagues in Business License.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of Orange,
expresses sincere appreciation and congratulations to Darrelynn Smith for her 33 years of
loyal and dedicated service to the Orange community, and wishes her a long and happy
retirement.
