A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO DAVID E. SUNDSTROM, CHAIRMAN OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE AUDIT COMMITTEE, AND
COMMENDING HIM FOR FIFTEEN YEARS OF
LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, David was born in Northern California, and after high school graduation
enlisted in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict, and after three years of
active duty was honorably discharged. He then graduated from Sonoma State University with
a BA in Management, followed by his graduation from the University of California, Davis
with a Masters in Business Administration; and
WHEREAS, David, after serving three -years as a Senior Accountant at Vilmure,
Peeler and Boucher, became a Certified Public Accountant, and in 1980 begatl his government
career at the University of California, Davis, as the Manager of Campus Audit. Nine years
later, he became the University Auditor for the California State University System, serving for
seven years; and
WHEREAS, in 1996, the Orange County Board of Supervisors appointed him Orange
County's first Director of Internal Audit, and in 1998 he was elected as the Auditor - Controller
for Orange County, and was subsequently re- elected in 2002, 2006 and 2010; and
WHEREAS, David is a member of the Governmental Accounting Standards Board
which sets accounting guidelines for governments nationwide; and
WHEREAS, in 1997, David was instrumental in helping to craft the charter to create
the Internal Audit Committee for the City of Orange and, since 1998, has served as its
Chairman, bringing his depth of knowledge and experience to the City of Orange. His strong
accounting skills, in -depth knowledge of governmental accounting standards, as well as his
unique sense of humor, makes his a hard act to follow, and he will be missed by his many
friends and colleagues at Orange City Hall and in the County of Orange; and
WHEREAS, David is returning to Northern California, where he will be the Chief
Financial Officer for Sonoma County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of
Orange, expresses sincere appreciation and congratulations to David Sundstrom for his 15
years of loyal and dedicated service, and wishes him continued personal and professional
success.
