TO FIREFIGHTER ROGER FITSCHEN OF THE
ORANGE CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT FOR FORTY
YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE.
WHEREAS, Roger Fitschen was hired as a Firefighter in May of 1971, which gives him
the record for having the longest tenure in the history of the Orange City Fire Department; and,
WHEREAS, Roger received his Associate in Arts degree from Rancho Santiago College
in 1989; and,
WHEREAS, Due to his strong work ethic, Roger earned the respect of many of his peers
and supervisors. He was a very capable, thorough and dependable Firefighter who consistently
demonstrated these qualities in critical live fire conditions; and,
WHEREAS, in the past eight months, Roger single - handedly installed a 300 -ft. long
progressive hose lay. This is recognized as a being very difficult task; and,
WHEREAS, Roger is highly commended for practicing safety and caution, resulting in
his sustaining a very minimal number of injuries while on the job; and,
WHEREAS, Roger is truly a nice person who never complained about anything. He
always had a smile on his face and a kind word to say to everyone he came in contact with. He
was always accommodating when it came to administrative moves from station to station; and,
WHEREAS, Roger, a.k.a. "Fraulein ", is very fluent in the German language. He owns
several German Firefighter antiques and has hosted visiting German Firefighters. For years, on
weekends, he would play a three- minute long German motivational song over the intercom at his

outside the station, convincing a dispatcher that he was from a German fire station and this

received a soccer college scholarship; and,
NOW, THEREFORE, on the occasion of his retirement from the City of Orange, we
wish to recognize Roger Fitschen for over 40 years of dedication to the Fire Department and

and fulfillment during retirement.
