RES-10650 Loyal Service Appreciation For Dave OronaRESOLUTION NO. 10650
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO OFFICER DAVE ORONA AND COMMENDING
HIM FOR TWENTY -FOUR YEARS OF LOYAL AND
DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE CITY OF
ORANGE.
WHEREAS, Dave worked four years with the Los Angeles Housing Authority
before joining the Orange Police Department on July 11, 1988; and
WHEREAS, in 1990, Dave received the Orange Rotary Club Award of Merit for
saving the life of a person who jumped from a second story balcony. Dave caught the
person in mid -air and prevented injury; and
WHEREAS, on April 16, 1993, Dave was commended for his heroic and
restrained actions as he assisted in the apprehension of a violent suspect who was armed
with a metal bar and threatening officers who had responded to a suspicious person call.
Arriving officers found the suspect had twice rammed his vehicle into a garage door, and
twice into a parked car. The suspect then smashed out the vehicles' windows and
threatened officers with the metal bar. Dave assisted in arresting the suspect without
resorting to the use of deadly force. Neither the suspect nor the officers were injured in
this dangerous encounter; and
WHEREAS, on April 27, 2000, Dave was commended for his investigation of an
armed robbery at the 7 -11 Store, located at 1679 N. Glassell. The suspects took money
and were seen driving a blue Honda. A red channel broadcast was put out with a
description of the crime and suspect information. As a result, Fullerton PD soon advised
they had three suspects in custody for another robbery at a 7 -11 in their jurisdiction.
Dave identified one of the suspects as the person he had seen in his review of the security
videotape. These suspects were identified as being responsible for three robberies that
occurred on this date. The weapon and monies were recovered. Dave did an outstanding
job in conducting a complete and thorough investigation; and
WHEREAS, on July 30, 2001, Dave was accepted on the Crime Scene
Investigation Team. He was a member of the team until June 6, 2010. His supervisors
noted that he conducted thorough, detailed, and accurate investigations; and
WHEREAS, Dave has been described as a team player by his peers. He goes out
of his way to assist other officers with their investigations and interviews. Dave would
take late calls for other officers on their Fridays so they could go home on time.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, the City Council of the City of
Orange, expresses sincere gratitude to Officer Dave Orona for twenty -four years of
service to the citizens of the Orange community, and best wishes for a long, happy, and
healthy retirement.
ADOPTED this 81h day of May, 2012.
