A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO SERGEANT JEFF GRAY, ORANGE POLICE
DEPARMENT, COMMENDING HIM FOR MORE
THAN 28 YEARS OF LOYAL AND DEDICATED
SERVICE TO THE CITY OF ORANGE.
WHEREAS, Jeff Gray began his career in law enforcement with the City of Stanton
Police Department in 1982; and
WHEREAS, after two years was hired by the Orange Police Department on January
23, 1984; as a patrol officer and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Gray transferred to the Traffic Bureau in June of 1985, and
worked various assignments including Motor Officer, Community Traffic Safety Officer,
Master Motor Officer, Motorcycle Training Officer, and successfully graduated from the
challenging motorcycle training program at the California Highway Patrol academy in
Sacramento and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Traffic Bureau, Jeff handled the daily enforcement
of traffic laws, investigation of traffic collisions, coordination of educational endeavors
between the Department and the Orange Unified School District, and the training of new
motor officers in how to ride their motorcycles efficiently and safely and
WHEREAS, in September of 1997, Jeff returned to the Patrol Division as a Master
Police Officer. In addition to his duties as a patrol officer, he taught in the ROP Program at
El Modena High School and
WHEREAS, on July 4, 1999, Jeff was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and in July
2001 he became the first Sergeant to be assigned to the police sub - station at The Block. Jeff
served as the liaison between the department and the Mills Corporation, Block Security, and
managed special events and
WHEREAS, in May of 2005, Sergeant Gray was again assigned to the Traffic
Bureau to supervise the motor officers. He introduced the electronic cite books. His
supervisor wrote that "Sergeant Gray looks for opportunities to develop officers'
investigative and case management skills" and
WHEREAS, Jeff has the ability to interact well with the public and brings a calm,
professional demeanor in citizen contacts and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Gray was actively involved in the El Modena High School
Mentor Program, Assistant Coach for the North Sunrise Little League, is currently a Board
Member of the El Modena High School Choir Program, and a Salem Lutheran Church Elder.
Jeff and his wife Toni have been involved with the El Modena High School Cheer and
Wrestling Booster Clubs.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT I, Carolyn V. Cavecche, Mayor
of the City of Orange, on behalf of the entire Orange City Council do hereby congratulate
Sergeant Jeff Gray on his retirement from the City of Orange.
