A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF ORANGE EXPRESSING APPRECIATION
TO COUNCILMEMBER JON DUMITRU
COMMENDING HIM FOR HIS EIGHT YEARS OF
LOYAL AND DEDICATED SERVICE TO THE
RESIDENTS OF ORANGE.
WHEREAS, in November 2004, Jon was victorious in his run for a City Council
seat, which filled a personal life goal to be on the City Council of his hometown. In January
2007, he was appointed Mayor pro tem, and was re- elected in 2008 to the City Council; and
WHEREAS, Jon is a lifelong resident of Orange, born at Chapman Hospital and
raised in the City of Orange. Jon is a "Proud Panther" of Orange High School. A majority of
the Dumitru family live in Orange, and those not residing in the United States, live in the
Southern European countries of Romania, Hungary, and Croatia; and
WHEREAS, since childhood, Jon has been an active member of the community. He
earned his Eagle Scout in Troop 1475. To this day, Jon proudly attends many Eagle Scout
Courts to congratulate the new Eagle Scouts, and encourage their continued involvement in
the community; and
WHEREAS, Jon lives his life giving back to the community, and has been a strong
advocate for non - profit groups and their volunteers. He believes that his family, church,
teachers, and friends have all contributed to his success. He "gives forward ", helping to
mentor and assist the youth of the community in appreciation for those who have given him
so much of themselves; and
WHEREAS, Jon has been involved in many organizations including the Elks Lodge
No. 1475, The American Heart Association, The American Red Cross, The American Cancer
Society, Orange County Firefighters Benevolent Association, California State Firefighters
Association, Orange County Republican Party Central Committee, Orange County Young
Republicans, National Marrow Donor Program, Orange Community Chorus, Boy Scouts, and
Venture Scouts of America, and the Orange Dog Park Association, to name a few; and
WHEREAS, he is a strong supporter and understands the importance of public safety
with a solid 20+ years of experience in the fire service field. He works a 24 -hour shift for the
Orange County Fire Authority in the Emergency Command Center. In 2008, he received the
Southern California 911 For Kids Local Hero award; and
WHEREAS, Jon has served on various regional committees and commissions
throughout Orange County, including Orange -Santa Ana Traffic Safety Improvement
Authority, Trauma Intervention Program Advisory Committee, Orange County Sanitation
District, Orange County Emergency Medical Care Committee, Orange County Airport Land
Use Commission, and Orange County Housing and Community Development Commission;
and
WHEREAS, as a member of the Orange County Emergency Medical Care
Committee, Jon developed the Stroke Diversion Program for paramedics in the County of
Orange and created the Cardiac Cath Lab program, resulting in thousands of lives saved in
Orange County. As a Commissioner on the Orange County Community Development and
Housing Commission, he fought to re- establish the priority status for homeless military
veterans for immediate housing assistance. As an Orange County Airport Land Use
Commissioner, he worked closely with the Federal Aviation Agency and Department of
Transportation to ensure development projects surrounding the airport did not jeopardize air
traffic safety; and
WHEREAS, as a Councilmember, Jon took responsibility to his constituents very
seriously, representing the entire community when making crucial financial and land use
decisions. Understanding that these decisions have a lasting impact to his hometown's rich
124 -year history, Jon strived to make decisions based on what was good for Orange; and
WHEREAS, in 2007, Jon was named the Orange County "Local Official of the
Year" by the O. C. Republican Party.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the entire City Council, City
Manager, and staff members extend their sincere appreciation to Councilmember Jon
Dumitru for his leadership and commitment during his eight years on the Orange City
Council.
