Agenda Item 3.2 Design Review No. 5009-20 – Orange Plaza Inn
SUPPORT
Good morning Chair Skorpanich, Vice-Chair Fox and Design Review Committee Members:
My name is Brian Lochrie and I live at 235 E. Maple Ave. in Orange, just one block east of the proposed
project location. I support the applicant’s efforts to transform the former Shannon-Bryan Mortuary to
the Orange Plaza Inn. The applicant met with us individually and I know he has met with other members
of the community to discuss the proposed project and obtain community input.
Adding a boutique hotel to our community would be beneficial as there is nothing else like this
anywhere in Old Towne. I believe that this project would also be a boon to the city financially by adding
additional transit occupancy tax (TOT) to the city’s general fund at a time when the city needs to
consider all forms of new revenue.
From a design perspective, the project would bring forth the beautiful old house currently hidden
behind the walls of the mortuary.
While it appears this project is only coming before you for preliminary review at this time, I would
encourage you to expedite the approval process so it can move on to Planning Commission, then City
Council if required.
Thank you for consideration of my comments and I look forward to seeing this project move forward
quickly.
