2. SUMMARY
This $41,000 grant will be used to expand and enhance the Library's adult literacy program.
Funds will be used for staffing, technology, program materials, and marketing.
3. RECOMMENDATION
1) Accept in the City's revenue budget a $41,000 grant from CLLS into revenue account
100.2001.45290.30106, State Grants -CA Literacy (CLLS) FY19; and
2) Authorize the appropriation of $41,000 into expenditure account 100.2001.53001.30106,
Materials Supplies CLLS Grant FY19.

The total appropriations for this grant are funded by the additional revenue received from the
State of California.

7. DISCUSSION and BACKGROUND
The Orange Public Library has been awarded a $41,000 literacy grant for FY 19. California
Library Literacy Services (CLLS), a program of the California State Library, has generously
provided support to our Library to expand and enhance its adult literacy program. The goal of
this program is to improve the reading skills of adult, English speaking community members
through the recruitment and training of literacy tutors. Funds must be spent or encumbered by
the end of FY 19 and will be used for staffing, technology, program materials, and marketing. In
addition to this grant, the Library's adult literacy program has also received financial support
from the Friends of Orange Public Library, Orange Public Library Foundation, Orange North
Rotary, and the Community Foundation of Orange.
