A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ORANGE
EXPRESSING APPRECIATION AND COMMENDING PATRICIA "PAT"
BUTTRESS FOR FOUR AND ONE -HALF YEARS OF DEDICATED SERVICE
TO THE PLANNING COMMISSION
WHEREAS, Patricia "Pat" Buttress has unselfishly served the Orange community on various
Committees and Boards. She has served as President of the Community Video Advisory Board,
Orange Chamber of Commerce Board, Chapman University Athletic Foundation Board of
Directors; St. Joseph Hospital Foundation; Orange Public Library Foundation Board, Orange
Successor Agency, and served on the City's Centennial Committee to just name a few; and
WHEREAS for the last four and half years Pat has served as a Planning Commissioner and as
the Chair since February 2015. She has played a significant role in some of the City's more
complex planning projects such as Chapman University Specific Plan Amendment #6;
Emergency Shelters Ordinance; Santa Fe Depot Specific Plan; Ordinances for Development
Streamlining; Circulation Element Amendment; General Plan /Zoning Consistency Zone
Changes; Housing Element Update; expansion at The Outlets at Orange; Salem Lutheran
Church and School Specific Plan; and the Lemon Grove Affordable Housing Project; and
WHEREAS, Pat's diverse background and education which includes an MBA from California
State University, Long Beach has been a valuable asset to the Planning Commission as they
have had to review many project plans and consider various code and ordinance changes; and
WHEREAS, Pat is employed by Southern California Edison as a Public Affairs Region
Manager and provides high quality customer service and assistance to the cities of Tustin, Brea,
Orange, Placentia, Fullerton and Yorba Linda; and
WHEREAS, Pat has not only made her home in the City of Orange for more than 37 years but
she has also made a concentrated effort to be an active member of the community as evidenced
in her involvement in various non - profits and community groups. She will soon again serve
as Chairman of the Orange Chamber of Commerce — a role she had in the 1980's. Pat is a
former Orange Citizen of the Year and always opens her lovely view home in the Orange Hills
for community fundraisers. Her annual Christmas party, including a tree with 1000 ornaments
is legendary!
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that 1, Mayor Teresa "Tita" Smith on behalf of
the entire City Council extend our sincere appreciation to Planning Commissioner Pat Buttress
for her leadership and commitment during her four and half years on the Orange Planning
Commission. Our heartfelt gratitude to you for your commitment to improve the quality of life
in our City and for your sincere heart service to the many organizations in our Orange
community that have been blessed with your great generosity of time, talent and treasure.
